He moved back two years ago, and has made the city a part of his newly launched online apparel boutique, The Colony (www.jaymccarroll.com). All of McCarroll's custom pieces in his online boutique, such as the "I Came to America With No Money and a Pineapple" tee shirt, were produced by a manufacturer in North Philadelphia. McCarroll, and co-creator of The Colony, Dave Larkins, thought it was important to not only keep the production of their apparel in their own country, but also wanted to keep it in their own city. "Philadelphia used to be an apparel production hub back in the 60's and 70's, but due to the cheap overseas production, all you see now are abandoned warehouses. We want to avoid that as much as possible. There are some still some really awesome production facilities here and we got lucky and found one," said McCarroll. (PRWeb May 27, 2009)
