Last-Minute Tax Tip: Cell Phone Users Can Triple Their One-time Phone Tax Refund Without Searching Through Old Bills

Cell phone users can claim a one-time phone tax credit of as much as $100 or more on their 2006 personal tax return instead of settling for the IRS' standard $30-$60. And contrary to popular belief, it won't take all that much time or effort, nor will it require that they pull out old phone bills, thanks to one company's innovative low-cost software that completes the computation in as little as 15 minutes.
$4.95 Software Helps Consumers Beat IRS On Phone Tax Refund

The IRS is offering individual filers a "safe harbor" credit of only $30-$60. The actual refund should be about 1.4 - 1.5 times an average pre-tax bill for long distance and cellular service. A consumer that's on a $69.99 per month wireless plan is entitled to a credit of about $100. However, according to the government, it'll take as much as 13 hours and 37 minutes to compute the full amount with interest. Hardly worth the effort. Phone Tax Refund Calculator© is a spreadsheet template that enables consumers and businesses to compute their actual Federal Telephone Excise Tax Refund in minutes, instead of hours. The software retails at only $4.95 for the consumer version and $24.95 each for the corporate and non-corporate business versions. (PRWeb Jan 31, 2007)

Feds Poised To Short-Change Public On Phone Tax Refund

The federal government announced last week that they are planning to give every taxpayer a refund of $30-$60 next April for a telephone tax that they should have stopped collecting years ago. But they may be trying to get away with paying out much less than they owe. (PRWeb Sep 7, 2006)
